LATE FEBRUARY marks the start of the Carnaval, Brazil’s national party time. It’s the time of the year for everyone to rumba, samba, cha cha cha, paso doble and jive. The salsa (dance) isn’t the only thing Brazilians are famous for. Their soccer stars are treated like Hollywood screen idols from Paris to Pudong. Increasingly, though, the country is known to people in China, India, Eastern Europe and the Middle East for its commodities like sugar, corn, soybean, rice, wheat and iron ore. |
